Getting to Know Music and Musicians/ Educational Music Program/ 6 Concerts with Free Entrance/ Art Direction and Design: George Koumendakis
The Michael Cacoyannis Foundation and the initiative for social awareness Children First” (Prota to Paidi) will be organizing in March 2012, the educational-music programme Getting to know Music and Musicians. The art direction and design of the programme are by George Koumentakis, sponsored by the Hellenic Postbank.
The
objective of this programme is the creation of an environment where
music can blossom. The artists and the groups chosen, relate the study
of music, on a higher-education level, always drawing on new ideas,
through an educational process of extremely high standard, to create a
partnership with remarkable musical results which is achieved through
the research and exchange of traditions, musical experiences and
material.
A very important aspect of the programme is that the
second series of concerts includes participants from regions such as
the Cycladic islands and Macedonia where very active musical groups
have been formed which have a lasting presence in the field and
constant educational and artistic activities.
At the same time
international collaborations and artistic exchange of ideas are
emerging with the sharing of musical experiences and material from
different traditions and the partnerships of Greek musicians living in
Greece, with musicians Greek or foreign from abroad.
The first series of the programme Teachers and Students includes three concerts on the 9th, 10th and 11th of March
by three soloists who work and teach in Greece. Each one in his own
field must simultaneously demonstrate a work of both educational and
artistic importance. Some of their students will be joining them on
stage, demonstrating various capacities of their musical tutorship.

– Music Workshop by Filippos Tsalachouris [In the Beginning was the Sound]
A
game for sounds discovering Sounds common, sounds of nature, human
sounds, seen from a different perspective, they are the primary
component of music. Having as means simple, common materials, as well
as flute and piano, Filippos Tsalachouris organizes a workshop open to
all ages as well as everyone who loves music.

With the support of the Sapfo Conservatory
– Anna Stereopoulou
will be presenting, in the form of a musical workshop, a recital of the
basic methods and functions of music and sound in cinema, using various
techniques, based on the historical and parallel evolution of both
these arts (Music and Cinema).
The second series of the programme Musical Communities includes three more concerts on the 17th and 18th of March with acknowledged composers musicians in partnership with renowned ensembles from Athens and regional Greece.
– Nikos Kypourgos and the Cycladic Orchestra
The
newly-established orchestra comprises 18 members combining a large
assortment of traditional and folk instruments and songs. The concert
includes Greek music and songs in all forms, traditional, folk and art
music.
– Alexandros Mouzas and the Ergon Ensemble
The
ERGON ENSEMBLE made its first appearance in 2004 as an informal group
belonging to the Paxos Festival. It evolved into what it is today as
of 2008. It is comprised of talented musicians who, throughout those
years, have taken part in the International Ensemble Modern Academy of
Paxos.
– NEOI PANES
A musical rehearsal / workshop about our own Greek musical tradition
The ensemble / workshop Neoi Panes of the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia makes
a presentation of musical instruments which for centuries have
dominated the folk and literary culture of the southern Balkans.
The
young musicians who make up this ensemble students and future
professionals along with their teachers, experiment musically and
improvise with the rich phraseology and elaborate structure of our own
familiar musical traditions, providing an interpretation which aspires
to merge the old musical practices of the city with the contemporary.
A
30 minute musical performance will follow, presenting tunes and
compositions, through which the musical instruments being presented
will emerge.

The
programme is aimed at secondary school students, especially those
students of music or arts schools, schools for children with special
needs and conservatories and also provides a tool for educational staff
of related disciplines.
