A tribute to the 75th death anniversary of Federico Garcia Lorca
Yannis Iordanidis, director, opens the tribute for the 75th death anniversary of the great Spaniard poet, Federico Garcia Lorca at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation and presents the play The Last Day, a theatrical composition which was created from Federico Garcia Lorcas and Rafael Martinez Nadals narrative and other writings that fascinated the director who proceeded with their dramatization and formed a play that the viewer will encounter a text which is about Lorkass last day in Madrid, a month before his tragic death in August 19, 1936 as it is narrated by the man who delivered the unknown manuscript the public.
A key sentence of the play: Before travelling or when we say goodnight to someone we love, we are always thinking death skulking. I am horrified in the idea that at some point I will have to take leave of myself. F.G. Lorca
The play The Last Day is about Lorcas tragic dilemma on whether to remain in Madrid or leave for Granada, where he was finally arrested and executed after a few days by the fascists.
Yiannis Iordanidis directed the play with a simple and poetic approach in an effort to set on the stage, through a cinematic structure, Lorcas last days and that incredible preapprehension of death that accompanied him through out his life.
