IRANIAN KID-ILLUSTORIUM

Drawing has always had a very strong presence in Iranian cultural tradition, very often breaking beyond the country’s borders and proving itself to be a powerful ambassador, earning international awards for the sensitivity and distinctiveness of its language. One of the most significant aspects of this art has always been, and continues to be, the illustration of children’s books. After the changes brought upon children’s literature by Hans Christian Andersen, the literary content as much as the illustration of children’s books in Iran was modernized resulting in a new style of book which is the combination of traditional and modern technique.
The birth of Institutes such as Kanoon (for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults) and the Organization for Educational Planning and Research of the Ministry of Education, who publish the Roshd magazine, along with numerous private publishers, have all assisted in this evolution. At the exhibition, which is being hosted by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, an array of illustrations for children by Iranian artists, both male and female, cover and important creative span of the 20th century.
