Narration of the Epic “Digenes Akritas”

Narration of the Epic “Digenes Akritas”

“Somewhere between East and West, a heroic Greek woman and a brave Arab man defy the hatred and the racial differences which separate them. They fall in love and have a son, Digenes. This dual nationality gives the hero twice the power and twice the strength to battle with injustice on whatever side it may appear, either within or beyond the borders. The life and battle of Digenes become a bridge and a symbol which unites people and cultures”, says the Narrator. The text was created within the framework of the collaboration between Magda Kossida, CLIO and Fahrenheit 451 and was first presented in French at the Avignon Festival (2007). Immediately afterwards the performance was arranged in Greek and is now presented in two languages just as the origin of the hero was dual.
