“I usually felt sorry for the wolf. How will he swallow so many pigs at once?” Cassandra is not an ordinary girl. Not even an ordinary woman. And she actually narrates her story.

The first novel by Margarita Karapanoy is presented on stage directed by Fezollari Enke: This is a performance that is depicted within the comic element and sometimes in absolute simplicity, touching the heart of the viewer with sensitivity and humor and uniquely addressing issues like ”traumatized childhood”, the utter lack – presence of the figure of the mother, the initiation into the adult world, the archetypal symbols, the tragicomic situations in the world of Greek bourgeoisie.

As Jerome Charyn characteristically says in his review (in New York Times), no analysis of Kassandra and the Wolf can explain the charm and enigmatic sense of the book… It is original, terrifying, comprehensive. It invents its own story, tucked into nightmarish situations and comes out of them as it mixes the dream with reality. Thus, in the performance, we enjoy both actors, who are continuously changing roles in a 60- minute play that draws images from the novel itself and creates – sometimes with blistering sometimes with poetic pace … some “slices of life”.

Director’s Note
“Kassandra and the Wolf”, the first novel by Margarita Karapanoy touches the topic of childhood. The irreverent Kassandra and the wolf, the mutinies of a girl who is pillaged with cockiness in the suffocating world of the adults… The erotic searches which are verging the limits of a kind of delirium govern the young heroes and cause strong reactions in the adult world. Innocent and cognitive, tender and tough at the same time, she views the world differently from the other children of her own age. The absence of the maternal figure, as a catalyst, permeates her own existence. Despite her hard casing though, she hides a deeply wounded soul and some tremendous secrets, and occasionally it is suggested that she also obtains a rare kind of sensitivity. Although the wolf is lurking at the corner, she is full of colorful dreams and rebellious expectations. She is a mixture of fantasy and reality.
