As the composer herself declares: “These musical performances are our effort to stand opposite to the current political misery and social gloominess, in a period that we consider it of outmost need to reinvent our lost awakening, sensitivity and dreams.

During her approximately two-hour performance, Pygi Likoudi, that holds a special preference for poetry, will lead us to her special musical paths, where we will meet set to music poetry of Kostis Palamas, Georgios Drosinis, Zcharias Papantoniou, Lampros Porfyras, Myrtiotissa, Kostas Kristallis, Georgios Souris, Giannis Ritsos, Nikiforos Vrettakos and the currents Lefteris Papadopoulos, Filippos Grapsas, Michalis Ganas and Giannis P. Ioannides.

The program among others includes a selection of songs from the section “Oinos Akratos” (= wine without water in it) that refers to poems about wine.

The section “Music in poetry with a woman’s eyes”could be considered a creative continuation to the great tradition of modern greek music and to the route of the classic composers and song makers of the 60’s and 70’s, who created music for the poems and lyrics of great poets verse writers.

Pygi Likoudi’s music is characterized of ethos and elegance. Another characteristic of her music is the harmonic coexistence of both western and eastern elements.

The lyrics determine the musical path that seek for and the music dresses them having the flexibility and sensitivity needed in order to support it with respect to its own characteristics.

The melodies are clear and austere and the instrumentation respects and follows them, giving an impression of acquaintance giving the audience the wish to sing them.

K.P Karabelas – Sgourdas, musicologist and musical critic stated among others:
“Listening to her music there is nobody that cannot appreciate the fact that she has profoundly considered every musical tone of the songs she creates, especially the secret bonds between music and words, having in mind the thin sentimental strings of the words and expressions of the poems that she selects to set in music in great melody and harmony.”

Director Memy Spyratou characteristically conveys her impressions from Pigi Likoudi’s hearings, saying: “Mediterranean and Balcan melodies are mixed with shreds of traditional and folk music to make you travel in music but not only in it.”

Pigi Likoudi’s music has got a rare gift: It addresses to all our five senses seeking to be recorded almost physically on us.
