“Aegean Rhythms” | A documentary by Yiannis Lamprou | Written & Directed by Yiannis Lamprou, Konstantinos Blathras

 “Life itself becomes a dream”
Fr. Hölderlin

The older and younger generation lyre players; the scenes of everyday life; the feast; the yearly circle metered in the rhythm of the lyre as it is played across the Aegean archipelago; from Crete to Drama and from Thessaloniki to Dodecanese. The rhythm of life in Aegean; the images; the sound of lyre tied with the poem verses of Kostis Palamas and Friedrich Hölderlin. Elements that are giving another dimension to folk music.

The film is the swan-song of Giannis Lamprou that was made complete by his colleagues. More accurately it is a narration of a journey, a flashback in memory willing to enthuse the viewer without encyclopedic or other trivial information. Part of the film’s material comes from the TV documentary series “Lyre players of the Aegean”. An ERT production, broadcasted by ET3 TV Chanel. While working with the production of the series, Giannis Lamprou had started in parallel the preparation of the production of this film. A work left to be finished in the hands of his close associates and his coworker Konstantinos Blathras .
