Group 7 presents – 83 years after the legendary performance by the National Theatre, in 1932, – the innovative play by Galateia Kazantzaki, aiming to show the timelessness of her writing and also how relevant to current times her work is. In the search for contemporary theatrical aesthetics, Group 7 (Omada 7) continues its journey of discovery, encompassing video art, sound collages, installations and theatrical research in a performance based upon the human voice and the body of the actor.

 

The performance focuses on the impressive similarities between the interwar period and the current situation in Greece and Europe. It hopes to create a vessel in which dissimilar historical and artistic material mixes together and to create a space in which the past meets the present and the future: a human, spatial and literary mosaic making up a modern “story”.

The work of Group7, is based on research and experimentation, its foundations are balanced on the one hand on the cultural nature of this country and on the other hand the use and twisting of methods and techniques  of postmodern theatre. The group was formed in 2003 and since then has expanded with the participation of artists from every country and field (actors, set designers, costume designers, lighting experts, video artists, musicians, visual artist, dancers, theatrologists etc). Into this concept, the use and management of space (public and private), the utilization of audiovisual material of all forms and the adaptation of texts is integrated as part of a dialogue with contemporary dramaturgy. The group does not have a permanent roof and has never been subsidized by the Ministry of culture.

 

The basic value and goal of Group7 is its collective character in the creative processes of developing different and even opposing aesthetics through the personal and autonomous expression of each member of the group. Finally, an important element of the group, is the role and the place of theatrical research in modern Greek reality, the interaction and conciliation with the broader environment of the international scene. Group7 deeply believe that something new and exciting will be born of these turbulent times. It only hopes that it can be a part of it.
