Michael Cacoyannis
was born in June 11th 1921 in Limassol, Cyprus. The city, the country, is the start point for Michael Cacoyannis. The threshold in order to become citizen of the world. A cosmopolitan though, with a deep knowledge of his routes as well as deep love for his homelands, Cyprus and Greece.

Starting on the date of Michael Cacoyannis’ birth, for four days in total, at the cultural venue he created and donated to Greece, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, we think of him through his films.

“Our Last Spring” 1960 [121΄], on Friday 13 June, at 21:30
“The Cherry Orchard” 1999 [137΄], on Saturday 14 June, at 21:30

Characteristic of his filmmaking is the international cooperation. Cast, partners, as well as set locations from all around the world.

On the parallel:

From early May takes place at the Foundation’s venue, exhibition by postgraduate and graduate students of Fine Arts Universities and Architecture Universities of Greece and abroad, who approach, get inspiration and start a discourse in the fields of visual arts with the Michael Cacoyannis’ film, “The Day the Fish Came Out” [104΄] 1967.

On the occasion of this exhibition is being organized on Thursday 12 June, at 20:00, open discussion on the film with renowned academics and artists.

–    Panos Dragonas, Associate Professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Patras
–    Leda Kazantzaki, Art Historian
–    George Maniotis, Writer, Vice-President of the National Theatre’s Board
–    Solonas Xenopoulos, Professor at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens
–    Dimitris Sevastakis, Professor at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens
–    Erato Chatzisavva, Assistant Professor of the Athens School of Fine Arts
The screenings and the open discussion will take place at Cinema Hall.

The film screenings and the open discussion will take place at the Foundation’s Cinema Hall. All films will be screened with subtitles in Greek, while the admission is free with necessary reservations.
