“Ligaments” (lig-uh-muhnt)
the fibrous tissue that connects bones to bones-
We present ligament in human form and movement. The choreography and story telling is inspired by the term showing the importance and necessity once people begin to unite as one. This can be perceived in many different events in our lives, reminding the viewers that once we join together we are unstoppable.
A pack of 11 technically strong female dancers will perform with constant beastly energy throughout their journey. The characters will portray a contrast between angst and vulnerability. The choreography will explore the extremity of ligament twisting, popping and breaking, creating unusual body movements. There will be a black and white balance between strong femininity and masculinity to show strength and pride, yet grace and technique. The music plays an important role with deep shifty bass sounds, to better bond the viewers to the performers, with a vibrating, bone-chilling effect. No description will be exposed to the audience as to the meaning of each piece, they will intake what they see in each piece based on the simple title itself.
Zoi Tatopoulos was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She began her first ballet lesson at the age of four. At the age of seven she started other styles of dance including, jazz, lyrical and hip hop. As a teenager she joined the competing studio of Dance House, Los Angeles. She officially began competing in award winning solo performances. She was best known for her unique style and music choices for her technical contemporary routines. Growing up in an artistic family her style differed from the rest of the dancers allowing her to standout in competitions. In the year 2007, Zoi took part on the show, “So you think you can dance”, in Greece, placing third. Immediately after she flew back to America to pursue her career and as a choreographer, teacher and dancer. She took part in two LA based dance companies that had strong reputations. “Invertigo Dance Theatre” and “JADDCO”, both accepted her and placed Zoi as a main dancer. Through her passion of choreography, both companies believed in her, allowing her to choreograph pieces as well. She also began teaching at well-known competitive studios in Los Angeles, “The Vibe” and “Academy of Dance”. Working with technique and modern/ contemporary dance style, she focused on progressing each dancer, and worked with all levels. She later began choreographing for top score dance competitors and received choreography awards at both competitions and shows. A year later, professional dancer and pop recording artist, Chasen Greenwood from LA approached Zoi and offered her to choreograph for his show performances. Zoi is best known for her risky and strong contemporary movements, with a graceful mix of standard technique, allowing the audience to be hypnotized and enter her world while her or her dancers perform her choreography.
