A sensory, collective experience centered on sound, ancient tragedy, and contemporary artistic creation is promised by the workshops organized by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, taking place on September 17, 18, 19, 2025, as part of the program “Ancient Drama: Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Approaches.”

The workshops are primarily aimed at artists and students of theatre and acting, and invite participants to co-create a sonic interpretation of Aeschylus’ Prometheus, within a specially designed space featuring strong acoustic resonance.

In small groups and using low-tech sound tools, participants will be introduced to the basic principles of spatial sound design, with the goal of composing an immersive acoustic journey that bridges the ancient with the contemporary, nature with human experience.

At the heart of the workshop lies a sound archive that captures soundscapes from the three geographical regions involved in the program: Brazil, Greece, and Scandinavia. Participants will have access to this material and may also bring and incorporate their own sound elements.

Through mindful listening, sharing of experiences, and multisensory expression, participants will collectively explore a global narrative of the Anthropocene, creating an international sonic environment and a new sense of shared presence that transcends the boundaries of language and geography.

The full title of the workshop is: Echoes of Ecosystems,  Reinventing the Age of the Anthropocene through Sensory Experience and Artistic Expression, from Greek Tragedy to the Contemporary World, and it will be conducted by two internationally acclaimed artists, Filippo Fabbri, Professor at the University  Paris –Saclay, pianist and composer and Ana Wegner, Professor at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of Sao Paulo.

The Ancient Drama program by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, now in its 13th year, will be held from September 17–21, 2025, 16.00-20.00 as part of the initiative “Establishment and Promotion of International Institutions of Contemporary Culture in Attica. Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Approaches.” The initiative is co-funded by the European Union – European Regional Development Fund, through the Regional Program “Attica”, within the framework 2021–2027.
