REVOLUTION: DEMONS/ THE GREAT SINNERS- FYODOR DOSTOYEVSKY

Raskolnikov, Stavrogin, Smerdyakov and Ivan Karamazov confront their sins, come face to face with their own truth, destroy themselves and reach the depths of their existence. Against them Porfíriy, Tikhon and Devil. These great sinners derived from the masterpieces of the great Russian author, meet at this new performance, the one after the other their truth or more precisely their punishment. Constantinos Hatzis continues his study on the work of the great novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky. Just after the end of the performances of Demons/The Grand Inquisitor and four years after the great success of The Great Sinners (2015 at MCF), the young director indulges again in the principal characters of Fyodor Dostoevsky.
“We pass from the “Demons” , a novel that announces in a predictive way the revolution that pursued in Russia, to the inner “revolution” of the great sinners. This journey reveals the true human nature. The man stripped down to the bone in front of his own self. The performance has a great cast of talented actors: Giorgos Papapavlou, Theoharis Ioannidis, Nikos Manesis, Constantinos Hatzis and Giannis Hortis. During the performance is played a song “The Dream” especially composed for the play by Nikos Xydakis and based upon the poetry of Georgios Vizyinos.
The heroes that we met at Demons coexist with the heroes of The Great Sinners, in a new approach. The Great Sinners is an original readaptation- composition of Giannis Haritodiplomenos and Constantinos Hatzis. It consists of passages of the top works of Dostoevsky “Crime and Punishment”, “Demons”, “The Brothers Karamazov”. The precise, sarcastic and demonic humor of Dostoyevsky provides what is needed for this great confrontation through a game of relationships and self-consciousness and primarily though the “humorous” situation of human existence. Where does it lead this relentless journey? In finding God or in finding faith?
