Michael Cacoyannis Foundation aiming to foster the theatrical training in education fields, hosts for a second year workshops for ancient drama entitled:

The round includes 4hour, 6hour and 8hour experiential workshops of directing, acting, set & costume design, movement, Chorus musical training and mask construction.

Teaching: Antigoni Gyra, choreographer, artistic director of the Kinitiras Dance Company, Anna Macherianaki, set & costume designer – teacher, Aris Michopoulos, actor – director, Thodoris Ekonomidis, actor, Christina Papageorgiou, architect, set designer, sculptor, Filippos Tsalachouris, composer – professor of the Athens Conservatoire Drama School.

The workshops are addressed to teachers of Primary and Secondary Education, theatre studies experts, students of Education University Departments, Drama School students as well as to mentors of young theatre groups.

The workshops’ aim is the participants, through their encounter with artists, to approach experientially the performing side of ancient drama.

The Workshops offer the participants the opportunity to get acquainted with the concept of the directional performance as well as the theatrical techniques, to become familiar with the construction and the use of mask, to exercise the movement and the music training of Chorus, as well as understand the role and the function of the set design, always in the framework of a contemporary approach of ancient drama.

From theoretical instructions and fundamental disciplines, the tuition will move to particular techniques and will be completed with the practical implementation on parts from Helen by Euripides.

The participants, having enriched their teaching tools, they will work along with their pupils or students on the ancient drama based on contemporary artistic practices, combining the typical or the lifelong education with the messages of ancient drama to the modern reality.
