Dimitris Liolios is directing Maria Laina’s play “To Fagito” (“The Food”) at the Michalis Cacoyannis Foundation.
Food is not usually allowed at a theatrical venue. Besides biology, the human need for food reveals and refers to more than one kind of hunger. A vivid and unique piece of modern Greek dramaturgy. This play is being staged for the first time, written by the poet Maria Laina. With the occasion of the upcoming performance and the 20th anniversary of the first publication of the play Maria Laina says “Even today the food scares me”

Director’s note.
An open discussion of what we define as food. “Food is our innocent victim and we have to admit that.” A death, the admission against life. How do we perceive this loss and how cruel can maturity be for any of us? Self-cannibalism. What did we have to sacrifice and what did we have to replace? Projections, symbols and the way we have to abusively accept all those things we feel in order to survive and feel full. Two parallel but completely different testimonies that on first sight they seem to converge, they do compose a motive on how people perceive and deal with a traumatizing experience.
