Apart from his directing work, Michael Cacoyannis has written many scripts and has translated into Greek and English well-known theatrical plays.

Michael Cacoyannis wrote the screenplays for all of his films. “Our Last Spring” he co-wrote with Jane Comb, and the “Wastrel”, he co-wrote with Frederic Wakeman. He has published the screenplays of “Stella” (1990) and “The Trojan Women” (1973).

He has also published translations into Greek of William Shakespeare’s plays: “Hamlet” (1965), “Antony and Cleopatra” (1980), “Coriolanus” (1990) and “Othello” (2001). He has translated Euripides’ “The Trojan Women” (1995) into modern Greek, and “The Bacchae” (1982) into English. He has also published “Diladi”, a collection of essays and interviews.

Finally, he has written the lyrics to several songs, among them “Agapi pou Gines Dikopo Machairi” (Love, A Double-Edged Knife) composed by Manos Chatzidakis, performed by Melina Merkouri and “Epta Tragoudia tha sou Po” (Seven Songs I΄LL Sing to You) composed by Manos Chatzidakis, performed by Melina Merkouri, both of which were written for “Stella”(1955).
