Apart from his directing work, Michael Cacoyannis has written a lot of scripts and translated in Greek and English, well known theatrical plays.

His has written the script for the movies he has directed, except from “Eroica” which was co-written by Jane Cobb and the script of “Wastrel” which he wrote with Frederic Wakeman. He has written more scripts that were never made to movies, and theatrical plays that he didn’t stage, and he has published the scripts of “Stella” (1990) and “The Trojan Women” (1973).

Michael Cacoyannis has also translated to Greek and published, William Shakespeare’s plays “Hamlet” (1965), “Antony and Cleopatra” (1980), “Coriolanus” (1990) and “Othello” (2001), and he has translated to English, Euripides’ “The Trojan Women” (1995) and “The Bacchae” (1982). He has also published the narrative “Diladi” (1990).

Michael Cacoyannis has written, amongst others, the lyrics of two very well-known Greek songs: “Agapi pou ’gines dikopo mahairi” (composer: Manos Hadjidakis, performed by: Melina Mercouri), and “Efta tragoudia tha sou po” (composer: Manos Hadjidakis, performed by: Melina Mercouri) that were first heard in the movie “Stella”, in 1955.
