A romantic comedy set in a dystopian future…
In a noisy world where two people manage to find each other and start a romantic relationship, Sam Steiner, in his groundbreaking work “Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons,” imagines a condition that touches the boundaries of dystopia.
Abuse of power, restriction of freedom, communication, resistance, and love are just some pieces of the mosaic intricately crafted by the author.
The performance takes place at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, starring Anna Menenakou and Panagiotis Gavrelas, directed by Zafeiria Dimitropoulou Del Angel.
In a fantastical future where the government enforces strict speech laws, amidst the swirl of socio-political issues raised, a beautiful and touching love story between two very different individuals reminds us that almost always “every word counts”!
How can these two individuals come closer together? What do they say with or without the limit on words, and most importantly, what do they say between the words?
How important is communication and freedom, and how do they contribute to improving human relationships, which have always been and will always be so fragile?
“Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons” is a sharp work, seemingly familiar, timeless, full of humor, and terribly real…!
Director’s Note:
“Inspired by the work itself and the contract of speech restriction, and after reading the play ‘Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons,’ for the first time, I challenged myself to describe it in 3 words. And the magic that Sam Steiner created turned this little game into an inspiration for the directorial approach of this production. My three words would be: Familiar, Sharp, Physical.
It’s a cutting-edge story, bone-crushing, a story of now and forever, and I feel greatly honored to have had the opportunity to explore it with a dream team of talented artists who have clear missions, open hearts, and endless humor. Don’t miss it. A new wave of new works is flourishing in the city and it’s worth honoring.”
